Civil society organisations write to the First Minister asking to prioritise the new Human Rights Bill for Scotland

At JustRight Scotland we have been campaigning non-stop to protect the Human Rights Act since the announcement of the Rights Removal Bill.

We asked civil society organisations from across Scotland to sign a joint statement which highlighted the impact of this new Bill in Scotland. Over 150 organisations signed this joint statement.
Alongside over 120 organisations, we signed a joint briefing – led by Liberty, calling on MPs to vote against the Rights Removal Bill.
We launched our campaign “Our Stories, Our Rights” to protect the Human Rights Act, looking for people across Scotland to share stories of how the Human Rights Act protect #AllOurRights.

We have been actively involved in the efforts to stop this Rights Removal Bill and we greatly welcome that it has been shelved by the new Prime Minister. However, we know that the threat to our human rights legal protections is not over.
Together with other organisations, we have sent a letter to the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to address our concerns regarding the delay for the consultation on the Scottish Human Rights Incorporation Bill.
We believe that a new, enhanced human rights framework is necessary to make human rights a reality for all in Scotland.
