We at JustRight Scotland are deeply shocked by the recent surge in far-right terror across the UK. Members of our communities, simply going about their lives, are being violently targeted because of the colour of their skin or their perceived religion. Hotels, where people and families are required to stay, have been set on fire.
The hatred displayed over the last week is the culmination of hostile, dangerous rhetoric and misinformation from those with political influence, and in some corners of the media. The way in which migration is discussed in the UK needs to urgently change.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the events of the last week. From the grieving families in Southport to the communities across the UK seeing their homes and local areas destroyed.
We call on the government and law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action to address and prevent far-right terror, and provide support to communities at risk.
The above actions are those of a loud but small minority. We believe that the vast majority of people in the UK stand in solidarity against hate and intolerance. It is through collective action and a commitment to our shared humanity that we can create a safer, more compassionate society for everyone.
